Helicopter fire fighting

Aims
This programme is designed to train designated personnel to handle helicopter emergency scenarios and to effect the rescue of crew and passengers in fire and non fire situations.

Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
Describe the Helicopter Fire/Emergency Response arrangements.
Describe the role of the Helicopter Emergency Team Member.
Understand helicopter operational hazards.
Understand helicopter emergency systems and controls.
Prioritise events in an emergency situation.
select to minimize damage.
Restore helicopter emergency equipment after use.
Understand the relevant aspects of published guidelines in relation to helicopter emergencies.
Understand and be familiar with emergency response procedures and alarms.
Understand and practice communication with personnel involved with the emergency scenario. (e.g: HLO, Fire Team, Air Traffic Control, ECC, Radio Room, etc's)
Consider what actions they need to take prior to entry and whilst gaining access to helicopters.
The best working practices to be used in the incident area.
Understand and practice rescue procedures and techniques.
Extract and handle of casualties.
select and operate portable fire fighting and rescue equipment.
Use fixed fire fighting equipment.
Understand and practice the operation, donning and wearer checks of self contained breathing apparatus.
