Senior first aid

Aims
To give participants the skills and knowledge of basic first aid needed to be able to deal with the injuries most likely to occur in everyday life. Upon successful completion of practical and theory assessment a certificate of competency is issued, valid for 3 years.

how to clear, then open airway
oropharyngeal insertion
jaw thrust manoeuvre
log rolling if trauma suspected
use of pocket mask
use of a bag-valve mask
use of an Automated External Defribillator (AED)
use of digital blood pressure machines
eye wash station/showers and its use
use of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) / Workfloor Instruction Cards
perform triage
moving / lifting casualties
manage bleeding and shock
manage Anaphylaxis
understand and manage environmental conditions
identify loss of consciousness
identify and manage fracture
identify and treat for poisoning, bites, stings and eye injuries
manage eye and ear injuries
manage substance misuse
evaluation of performance and stress management
manage the use of first aid kits
